Australia Day

Australia Day is next week.  Thursday 26 January to be exact.  It's a day where we aussies do something totally Australian like head to the beach or have a bbq with family and friends or drink lots of beer and tell rude, sexist jokes...all without any of us really knowing what Australia Day actually means (FYI, it's to commemorate the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 - thanks google for filling me in)

So this year we have decided to celebrate Australia Day by inviting a few friends over and have a good old fashioned BBQ...which of course, I have managed to turn into something I like to call

The Great Australia Day Family Fun Day.

I've been to the shops and stocked up on cheap, tacky Australian themed party goods....

That haul came to the grand total of 20 bucks.
Gotta love the local Dollars and Sense store for cheap party goods!

I've bought thongs for the Thong Throwing contest...

$2.99 at Crazy Clarks.

I've organised for our lovely friends L&K to bring the cane toads.
Yes, we'll be having a cane toad throwing competition...eeewww

And I've got the pies all sorted for the pie eating comp....

And now, I'm working on putting together an Aussie themed dessert & drinks bar. While some may think plastic cups are tres tacky, I think they make perfect sense when little kids are around (nobody wants their day ruined by little feet stepping on broken glass) so here's my crafty way of making a boring plastic cup look a bit more Australian...

stickers + plastic cup =

Now all I need to do is find an Australia Day outfit to wear and I'll be good to go!

How about you?
What are you up to this Australia Day?
