School Camp 2nd Edition....

Those who know me well know that I don't do camping.  Ever.

I just don't understand why anyone would want to do all the things they do at home (cook, clean, nag the kids etc) outside.  Or in a tent annex.  With a dirt floor.  Why people, why??

Now before you start thinking I'm some sort of holiday snob, which I totally am, I should mention that some of my happiest childhood memories involve camping trips.  Yes, packing up the trailer with copious amounts of camping gear and heading off to some not so exotic camping destination in a family convoy of station wagons was how many a Christmas was spent.  And I loved every single minute of it.  But I also loved the few times that our family holidays involved leaving all the camping gear behind and heading to the airport.  To board a plane.  And head somewhere lovely.  That didn't involve tripping over tent pegs or peeing in an outdoor toilet.

And so, it was with great excitement that two days ago, Bailey, our camping deprived son, headed off to his second school camp.  And today he came home:

Last year when he came home from camp his bag was so filthy that when I opened it, 20 baby spiders crawled out.  I know.  Feral.  So today, I was expecting the worst...a pile of laundry to be done asap.  But instead, I unpacked a large amount of neatly folded, unworn clothes.  Just as I had packed them 3 days ago.

Yes, this is all I have to wash.  1 pair of shorts and two t-shirts.  It would seem that 10 year old boys find fresh clothes and good hygiene a complete waste of time.  I'm not sure whether I should thank him or lecture him....

FYI, This next bit was added 5 minutes after I hit 'publish' on the post above....

PS:  Oh and just after I hit 'publish' on this post, I suddenly realised that none of Bailey's undies, socks or PJ's were in the laundry.  So I unzipped the side of his camp bag and found them.  All neatly folded and organised.  Just as we had packed them on Tuesday.

Yes, that's right, my boy wore the same pair of undies and same pair of socks 3 days in a row.  And slept in his clothes.  Because he "forgot" where we'd packed them.  Okaaay then.....

How about you?
Have your kids been away on camp yet?
And more importantly, are they as hygienically challenged as mine?!?
