If you follow me over on instagram, you'd be aware that there's been a fair bit of Tonia Todman/DIY/crafting action going on around here in the last month or so. Here's a visual for those of you who are yet to discover the magic that is instagram.
Don't be fooled by seeing Scott hard at work on this project. I was in charge of covering the back of the wallpaper in paste (the glamour never ends) and even managed to hang one piece of wallpaper. All by myself. I know. The producers of The Block will be calling my people any minute now.
Styled it with a vintage storage chest thingy that belonged to my Aunt. It's been with me since she passed away in 1987 and every time I look at it, I think of her.
Meanwhile, B's been busy creating a pyramid using sugar cubes for a Humanities Assignment. For the record, it took 500 sugar cubes, 1 large tube of PVA glue, a cake board, some paint, a fair bit of Up Itself Sand (it came from a gated community on the Gold Coast) and two large glasses of wine* to create.
I should also point out, that I'm one of those mothers who insists their children do all their own homework. None of this, "Let me sort that out for you so you get an A+" nonsense around these parts. Just quietly, I reckon B did alright with this one.
*The wine was drunk by me. While watching him put the whole thing together. Because despite having a strict "It's Your Own Work" Homework Policy, I was itching to get in there and line those cubes up with a spirit level. But I restrained, poured myself a hefty wine or two instead and let the 12 year old figure it out. I know. I'm just as proud as you are with that one.
And last but not least, we finished off our DIY-ing with Operation Get Rid Of The Chandelier. The previous owners had installed it and while I really like it, the silly thing kept shorting out. My electrician told me it would be cheaper to buy a replacement than to get it fixed and if I wouldn't mind buying a new one in the next week or so, he would come back and install it for me. Um, have we even met?
I was at the local lighting shop quicker than you can say, "Will that be cash or credit" and came home with not one but three gorgeous pendant lights, an industrial looking lamp for B's room and a new light for our bathroom. Because I think we can all agree, I'm not exactly a fan of doing things by halves.
You would make Tonia very proud, looks great!! Hanging to see the new lights up!!
ReplyDeleteThe lights should be up next week. Stay tuned!
DeleteSo glad that someone else makes their children do their own homework/assignments and get whatever mark they actually deserve for their own work !!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day and let's see what we can learn together about google+ !!
Me
Thanks for doing all the hard work to find me over on Google+!!! Looking forward to working it out together LOL
DeleteI kind of love his pyramid. Perhaps it's because it's his own creation. As much as I'm dreading the home work stages, I'm looking forward to seeing where his brains at and helping him bounce ideas for projects and things like that. Ps. Looking forward to seeing the new lights. Pps. LOVING the wallpaper!
ReplyDeleteNew lights were meant to be going in today but there's a piece missing, so installation has been delayed until next week. I would complain, but really, it's a first world problem so I'll keep my mouth firmly shut ;)
DeleteLove the sugar cube pyramid. Sorry to hear about the chandelier- I liked it. Impressed by the wallpaper efforts. My father in law had his foyer in his holiday pad painted similarly.
ReplyDeleteI liked the chandelier too and am sorry to see it go. FIL's holiday pad sounds a bit lovely!
