DIY Advent Calendars & Annoying Niches

Ok, so as you would know from this post, I've decided to whip up my own Advent Calendar this year. I really wanted to display it in the shape of a Christmas Tree, but didn't have the wall space to do that.  So I decided to put it on display in this really annoying wall niche thingy that the previous owners put in.  It's annoying because it's an odd shape, is wallpapered in heavy black flowers and I honestly have no idea what to do with it. So it sits empty. Until now....

I've just used good old blu-tak to attach the bags to the wall and with any luck when I remove them at the end of the year, they'll take all the fugly wallpaper with them and I'll be forced into re-doing that pesky little niche.  Anyone got any ideas what I could do with it??

But back to the Advent Calendar, which needs a few things done to it before it's finished.  Firstly, I'm not loving how the written numbers (three, nine & fifteen) all line up under each other, so that's going to have to change.  Secondly, I haven't filled the bags yet because if I do they'll probably fall off the wall (blu-tak and Queensland heat don't really mix) so I'm going to fill the bags with little notes and teeny tiny treats (mini santa chocolates, chocolate coins etc) each night.  The kids can then check the bag the following morning for their latest Christmas task/activity/message and little treat.  And finally, I haven't cracked a single bottle of champers to celebrate the festive season yet, so that's going  to the top of the To Do List.  K&Co over & out xox

  1. What about a strip back and chalkboard paint option? Blu tac is my friend until carpet becomes involved then its a sworn enemy. Love the calendar x

  2. Get your self a steamer... Steam the wall paper off and and paint your colour of choice. Or scratch that and put a mirror in there opening up it and the room it's in. Love the advent calendar idea as well x

    1. The mirror idea is one I've been thinking of doing for ages...it's a quick and easy way to solve the problem! I think we've found our solution :)
